The Festival Day of St Oliver Plunkett is celebrated in St Peter’s Church, Drogheda, on Sunday 6th July. This year there will be an added dimension to the occasion as the Concelebrated Mass will commemorate the death of Fr Declan Collins SDB, a native of Termonfeckin, who was murdered at the All Saints Parish Centre in Ennerdale, South Africa, in November 2002. The Mass will honour St Oliver Plunkett, and will also acknowledge those who, like Fr Declan, continue to serve the Gospel even to the point of death. The Festival Mass in St Peter’s Church will be attended by the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Guiseppe Leanza as well as members of the Salesian Order and priests of our own Diocese led by Cardinal Sean Brady, Archbishop of Armagh. On the day of the Procession, the Relics of St Oliver Plunkett will leave Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 3pm to arrive for Mass in St Peter’s Church at 4pm. This year Clogherhead parish will participate in the annual festival of prayer to St.Oliver Plunkett. On the Death of Our Loved One -
from ‘Benedictus’ by the late John O’Donohue (author of Anam Cara)
Though we need to weep your loss
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.
Your love was like the dawn
Brightening over our lives,
Awakening beneath the dark
A further adventure of colour.

Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you.
You would want us to find you in presence, beside us when beauty brightens,
When kindness glows and music echoes eternal tones.

May you continue to inspire us;
To enter each day with a generous heart.
To serve the call of courage and love
Until we see your beautiful face again
In that land where there is no more separation.
Where all tears will be wiped from our mind
And where we will never lose you again.

June – Month of the Sacred Heart
But why is the Heart of Jesus selected as the object of this special adoration? Because His real and physical Heart is a natural symbol of the infinite charity of the Saviour and of His interior and spiritual life. The heart is a vital organ which, as it throbs within us, is part of our existence. It has always been looked upon as an emblem, sometimes of courage, sometimes of one's whole interior nature, but oftener of love. How often we hear such expressions as "Be of good heart," meaning "Have courage"; " He opened his heart to me," meaning " He told me all his secrets "; and our Lord Jesus, in asking our love, made the request in these words, "Son, give me thy heart." We see, then the reasonableness of taking the Sacred Heart of our Saviour as an object of our worship, not only because it is a part of Him, but because it symbolizes His love for all mankind.

Parish Draw The parish draw will take place from July 3rd and in preparation the cards for sponsors and participants are now available. As this has become the major fundraising parish event in the year and this has been a year of heavy financial outlay on maintenance of church and parish property everyone is asked to support the draw as far as possible. Members of the Parish Finance Committee will be outside after Mass over the next two weekends to supply those who would be willing to take a card and find participants and to explain the draw. As there are less than 100 cards in the draw if just one family in four in the parish took one to sell there would be a full return so please consider giving the venture your support this year.

The amount raised last weekend for the Sick & Retired Priests amounted to €1185. Thanks to all for the generous response.

A very enjoyable evening was had by all at the Little Duke Theatre Company’s production of Charles Way’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’ last Thursday night. There were many compliments regarding the professionalism of the players, the set and the costumes. The theatre generously donated the proceedings from the night’s ticket attendance to the parish so a big thanks to Mrs.Brenda Harrington and the Company as well as the parishioners who sold tickets and supported the evening.

Clogherhead Credit Union Ltd., 40th Anniversary celebratory dinner in the Westcourt Hotel on 14th June 2008 at 7.30pm. Music by The Navan Swing Band. Tickets € 30 each available from the Credit Union Office or any Board Member.

The Special Priest’s Collection takes place next weekend.

We pray for our diocese as the process of planning gets underway to reorganise priests and parishes. May the Lord guide and encourage us.

New Look Parish Bulletin Following a visit from Fr.Richard Good C.Ss.R a new form of parish bulletin ‘Sunday Message’ produced by the Redemptorists is being used this weekend. It is hoped that the combination of readings and parish bulletin which is already proving popular in other parts of the diocese will be favoured by our own parishioners as well. A month’s free supply has been given to the parish to see how it goes. Let us know what you think.
