The Lotto
--------

The Clogherhead Community Lotto is one of the main sources of funding for the Clogherhead Development Group. It costs only 2 euro to contribute towards community development in your area, while also having the chance to win weekly cash prizes.

The Lotto is easy to join. Simply print out and fill in the standing order mandate below and post it to the Clogherhead Development Group as instructed and we will do the rest.

The lotto is run each week and the results are published in the Drogheda Independent.

Clogherhead Development Group (CDG) is a community organization run on an entirely voluntary basis by people striving to enhance, improve and promote the social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of the Clogherhead community.

Clogherhead Development Group is constantly seeking funding at both local and national level to finance its various projects some of which include: Management of the Community Hall on the Chapel Road which conducts such activities as Bingo, Irish Dancing, Modern Dance, Pilates, Fit Ball & Aerobics, Ballet, First Aid, Scouts, Leisure Time Group, Indoor Bowls, Children’s Parties, and Weight Watchers. Management of the four Business Incubation Units at the Harbour currently involved in Crab Meat preparation, Fish preparation and Steel fabrication. Management of Floodlight All Weather Pitch at Callystown Road. Visual projects include Street Cleaning, Hanging Baskets, Flower Beds, Regeneration of derelict areas, Christmas Lights, Hedge Cutting throughout the village and surrounding area, Beach Cleaning, Liaise with local FAS group scheme. Web Site. Our web site is well worth a visit on www.clogherhead.com
The medium-term plan (2008) of the group is the installation of a children’s play area adjacent to the All Weather Pitch. We are also embarking on a project to further enhance the visual aspects of the village following our success as All Ireland Winner of the Tidy Towns Competition 2007 for new entrant in our population category.

All projects, including those mentioned above, require a local financial contribution. To this end you are invited to participate in the local weekly lotto. There are prizes to be won each week and the money is spent locally. The scheme is devised to allow you play the lotto each week. Deductions can be made from your bank account or credit union account.

The Lotto Challenge
----------------

One of the difficulties we have is lack of membership numbers. To raise money through government grant aid for sporting and recreation facilities we need to show a membership. Sadly we cannot do this and we have been unsuccessful in the past with government grant aid.

Our only form of membership apart from the committee are those listed on the weekly lotto draw. I would encourage you to join our weekly lotto at a cost of 2 euro per week. You will help finances, increase our 'membership' and may even win a weekly prize. I would then encourage you to encourage others to do the same.

Every 2 euro collected is worth 10 euro to CDG if it can be tied to a government scheme at 80% grant funding for community groups. Your 2 euro is hugely important.

If we can get one person to sign up to the lotto per week for a year this increases our membership by 52 members and is worth a potential 27,000 euro (twenty seven THOUSAND euro) to CDG.

The sums are 52 lotto members x 2 euro per week = 104 euro per week x 52 weeks = 5408 euro per year = 20% local contribution + 80% government grant = 27,040 euro.

After year 2 we would have 104 members and an income stream of 54,000 euro. We can do something with this type of income and membership.

Funding is needed for all activities sponsored by CDG including this YELLOW BOARD (web site)

I would like to CHALLENGE THE USERS, contributors and readers, of this yellow board to get one new lotto member per week between you all to achieve the above goal. You can ask, coax, cajole, coerce etc. your friends, family, neighbours and anyone else you know who might want to contribute to improvements in Clogherhead.

Please give this some serious consideration and debate on this yellow board.

Of course you don’t have to take up the challenge ….. maybe we don’t need to make any improvements ….. maybe there are none to be made.
