Due to the significant amount of ongoing construction work in the village and harbour at this time it is difficult to maintain strong ‘Visuals’ projects. However, we continue efforts as listed below:
Hanging Baskets: Arranged each summer by the CDG for the Main Street, the baskets require cumbersome daily watering, However, they enhance the natural aesthetics of the Main Street, and brighten the centre of our village.
Flower Beds: There are a number of flower beds in the village and on the approach roads maintained by the CDG.
Christmas Lights & Tree: Each Christmas season, the CDG festively decorates the Main Street in early December creating a festive atmosphere throughout Christmas and the New Year.
Litter Control: The CDG aims to set a greater example on a community level, of an environment litter free, by conducting a community litter control programme in cooperation with our mindful and caring local citizens.
Weed Killer: A continued programme of spraying weed killer along the kerbsides to help control the spread of weeds.
Hedge Cutting: This is coordinated in conjunction with the land owners twice a year around the village and on the approach roads. Hedge cutting is strictly disallowed during the bird-nesting season.
Flower Competition: Held annually and sponsored by the Credit Union to recognise those who have made efforts to improve their garden. There are many award winning categories ranging from newcomers, to baskets, to an overall garden category.
Chain Gang: During summer months we, the CDG, call ourselves the "chain gang" and tackle specific tidy up projects on a given day. While we are not chained together and we don’t sing, there is a great sense of camaraderie. We invite and welcome all to participate. Similarly, we invite and welcome project suggestions.
FAS Group: We are fortunate to have the help of a FAS scheme in the area that helps with some of the above mentioned tasks.
